At Home Pedicure Tips
By infoguider
A pedicure is the method used to make the appearance of the feet and toenails better. The term pedicure was derived from the Latin word Pedis, which means care of the foot. Regular pedicures will help to protect the toenails from disease and infection, and also keep them looking great. Pedicures are generally done in beauty parlors, but the great news is you can give yourself a great one at home, without the big price tag!
You can take care of the nails on your feet by giving yourself a royal treatment right in the comfort of your own home! With your own at home pedicure, the procedure is not much more complicated than the one done in expensive spas and it can be accomplished with the most basic equipment.
Some tips for a good home pedicure are given below, which will help you to get fabulous looking feet.
These are nice looking feet!
The first thing to do is to remove the old nail polish totally with the use of a nail polish remover. If you are not able to remove the nail polish with the nail polish remover you can use acetone drenched cotton pads as well. Keep the cotton pad on the nail for a little bit of time and this will enable you to remove the nail polish thoroughly. Try not to leave it on too long though, as this could be damaging to the nail.
When cutting your nails, it is advisable not to cut too close to your skin; afterall, nails are there to protect your toe. When you file your nails, it is better to file around the corners with the use of emery boards. Metal files are less precise and can be damaging. Remember to from the side of the nail toward the middle, and only in that direction. Don't file your nails as if you were sawing!
If you are using emery boards it should be understood that the coarse surface in the emery boards is for shaping the nail edges and the smooth surface is for softening the edges of the nail.
Before you begin, soak your feet in hot water containing aroma oils or salt; this will not only soften hard skin, it also feels amazing. You can also add vinegar and lime juice to the water as well.
Once you have soaked your feet for ten minutes, you can remove them and get them dry. Next you want to soften the harder skin under your feet. For removing the dead skin cells from your feet, use wet pumice stones, foot scrubs or exfoliates. Don't scrub too hard; you don’t want to injure yourself!
Next comes one of my favorite tricks: use plain natural yogurt and rub it all over your feet. This will give them a deep clean due to the lactic acid that naturally occurs in yogurt.
Another trick is to take cotton balls dabbed in lemon juice and rub them over your toenails, this will help get rid of accumulated yellowing on your toes.
Paint your toenails as usual. Be sure to use a quality basecoat, two coats of nail polish, and finish off with a quality topcoat when painting your toenails.
After the nail polish has dried completely, use a foot cream and gently message the cream onto your foot on all areas including the spaces in between your toes. You can make your home pedicure a more fun experience by listening to your favorite relaxing music and burning incense. It is also be a good idea to invite all your friends so you guys can give each other pedicures together…what fun! Follow the above pedicure techniques, and you will never have to pay expensive spa prices for a pretty pedicure ever again!
